Medium difficulty; easy walk (about one mile round trip), level, shaded
Downs Park, Anne Arundel County, on the Chesapeake Bay (admission $4.00 unless you have an annual pass which is $20) http://web.aacpl.net/rp/parks/dp/
Directions http://web.aacpl.net/rp/parks/dp/directions.htm
Check in at the gatehouse and indicate that you want to go to the other side of the park. Make a U-turn, cross the road and drive through the gate on the other side. Turn left toward the softball field and park on the lot near the "Softball Field" sign.
- Look for the information kiosk signpost, the one with the small "roof." Find the paved path near it and begin walking into the park. (You are beginning just beyond the 1.4 mile marker.)
- You will soon see an open field on the right where deer often graze at dusk.
- Pass the 1.5 mile marker. You will see a bench on the right.
- Pass the 1.7 mile marker. You should see a map marker on the left. Turn right onto the dirt path. (If you notice the sweetgum tree bent over the path, pause under it, close your eyes and make a wish.)
- You will pass a 3-in-1 tree on the right. You will come to a fork with an elm tree in front of you. Turn right at the folk.
- Walk until you come to another fork and turn right.
- Walk 18 paces and look to the left. (See photo album named Pasadena Maryland.)
- The box is hidden under a nearby bird house.
- You will find my first letterbox hidden in a dead log that caught fire a couple years ago!
